The Upton Wine Appreciation Club
The Club, which was formed in 2005, aims to provide residents, their families and friends with informal monthly meetings based on tasting wines from around the world. These are usually attended by about forty members and 8 to 10 wines are tasted with some information from a speaker, usually a Club member, but occasionally a visiting professional. The emphasis for our meetings is very much on their informality and they provide an opportunity for members to socialize and for newcomers to the Village to be welcomed.
We meet in the Village Hall, usually on the third Wednesday of the month, except for December when we meet a week earlier and July and August when we have a summer break. All meetings start at 8 p.m. and topics for forthcoming meetings are displayed on the Village website.
Full membership is open to all residents of Upton over the age of 18 years plus their immediate families (children over the age of 18 years and parents), ex-residents of Upton and those closely associated with the Village. Guest Membership is available for friends and visitors of members but guest members are limited to attending a maximum of two meetings per Club year.
At present annual membership costs £5 and Guest membership £2. The charge for each meeting is usually £5 but for 1 or 2 meetings per year, when we have a visiting professional speaker or where the wines are more expensive, this can go as high as £10.
New members are always welcome and if you are interested in joining please download an application form. The completed application should then be sent to either the secretary or chairman from whom further information can be obtained.
