Recreation Ground Plans

September 26, 2006

The Parish Council has unveiled possible plans for the Recreation Ground.

You can also download the original Master Plan and Detailed Design display boards.

Trim Trail

A 450m circuit of timber-edged bark mulched path is to be constructed within the site, providing a non-slip, all-weather exercise track. 1.3m wide and lined with an appropriate geotextile membrane.

Located at along the length of the track will be timber log constructed exercise apparatus (see below) providing further options for varied exercise activity.

The trail has been designed to have a low maintenance requirement. Timber edging and an appropriate geo-textile membrane lining will ensure all edges for grass cutting purposes are clearly defined and that the surface is easy to keep weed free.

Trim Trail Apparatus

Located at points to the edges of the trim trail. Providing supplementary forms of exercise.

Multi Exercise Bench

Simple bench design used for
number of different exercises
such as star jumps, step ups,
press ups, sit ups etc.
Length: 1.8m

Parallel Bars

2 Steel Bars supported
timber posts.
Height: 1.2m
Length: 1.8m

Run and Leap

4 ascending horizontal beams
on support timbers
Overall Height: 1 m
Length: 1.5m
Width: 1.8m

Gate Climb

6 Horizontal Logs forming a gate configurator
Height: 1.8m
Width: 3m

Timber Ball Wall

Arranged to include provision for football, mini-tennis and junior cricket practice including an ‘Aim Game’. Located on area of self-binding gravel surfacing flush with adjacent levels.

The ball wall will be constructed of timber sections mounted in two faces onto 2 upright timber posts and will be located along the western boundary of the site adjacent to the trim trail and existing canopy line of the railway embankment.

The main area around the ball wall will be surfaced with low maintenance self-binding gravel which will consist of finely graded and well-compacted aggregate providing a durable and breathable amenity surface.

The ball wall will create various opportunities for practicing ball skills with provision made through the demarkation of half a mini-tennis court, a junior/mini size football goal area and a junior size cricket pitch, with the wicket itself marked onto the ball wall. There will also be a target based game.

Woodland Edge Planting

Groups of small trees and large native shrubs will be introduced to areas along the existing wooded railway embankment to provide some variation to the existing canopy line, mimicking a natural woodland edge.

Copse Planting

Consisting of mainly clear-stemmed specimens to maintain filtered views from adjacent housing into the space.

Areas of copse will be planted in groups to the east and north-east of the site consisting of clear stem native tree species and ground cover/ meadow planting, allowing filtered views and visually connecting the central playing field area and the ‘Field Side’ properties along the eastern boundary. The Trim Trail will weave through these areas of planting, allowing users to move through the site.

Wildflower Meadow Planting

Areas of longer grass enriched with wildflowers.

An appropriate wildflower seed mix will be applied to the eastern meadow area created by the introduction of copse planting adjacent to the football pitch. This area will require 2 cuts a year and will provide a valuable habitat for wildlife includinq insects and birds.

Playground Extention / Relocation

integrated with existing tree-lined edge to provide shade. Catering for the junior age group.
