Thames Water have announced the Upper Thames Major Resource Development (UTMRD)Â project, a re-evaluation of the need for a major new water resource in the Upper Thames area. Their current provisional preference is that of a reservoir to the south west of Abingdon.
Their studies have concluded that the best way to secure future water supplies is a package of measures including a reservoir. Following an assessment of 55 potential sites in the River Thames catchment area, the proposed site to the south west of Abingdon has been identified as the most suitable.
