A third of electric blankets in Oxfordshire are unsafe
A recent campaign by Oxfordshire County Council has revealed that more than a third of electric blankets tested are unsafe. As the County Council completed its two week campaign, Oxfordshire residents were warned that they run a terrible fire risk by using unsafe electric blankets.
789 blankets were tested and of those 315 were found to be unsafe.
Nigel Strick, Head of Trading Standards at Oxfordshire County Council said: “These results are similar to previous years and clearly show that electric blankets have a relatively short life.
“Although safety features have improved over the years, the way we use electric blankets and keep them stored for so much of the year seems to cause them to become unsafe within a few years.
“Our advice is clear, therefore. Never use an electric blanket that is more than three years old without having it tested for safety.â€
