Didcot accident blackspot targeted for speed checks

May 2, 2007

Police and road safety officers from Oxfordshire County Council will target speeding motorists at a known accident blackspot in Didcot on Friday, 4 May from 9am.

Thirty-one people have been killed or injured in the last five years on
the A4130 at Hadden Hill in Didcot. The latest tragic loss of life came
on Christmas Day 2006. Sixty-eight people were killed in Oxfordshire in
2006, predominantly on rural/higher speed roads with car occupants the
biggest group.

Police officers will be have the option of using the full extent of the
law to deal with speeding drivers, issuing fixed penalty notices.

However, those exceeding the limit by just a few miles per hour will be
given the option of attending education sessions with Oxfordshire
County Council and Thames Valley Police road safety officers. Drivers
will be asked to look at photographs of collisions in which someone was
killed or seriously injured.
