Hopefully the Race to Infinity Blewbury Exchange Campaign Group will be successful in getting super-fast broadband in the village in 2012. Until then, it would like to support the Councils’ research into the issue of broadband speed, as we might well end up relying on their support to get better broadband into the village! In addition, the results of the research might help individuals to determine what sort of speed is achieved by their neighbours, and therefore see whether the performance of their own suppliers and equipment are up to scratch.
We are therefore conducting a survey within the village to find out what broadband speed is currently being achieved. We are simply asking for a short test to be performed on your computer, which takes a couple of minutes to execute. Then email the results to one of the coordinators.
- Click on: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker
- Enter your postcode in the box provided and click ‘search’.
- Once you have the search results page click on the ‘Locality’ tab.
- The page that appears will have a map that shows your postcode in relation to your exchange and all the other postcodes served by your exchange.
- The map will include the name of your exchange and underneath the map you will see the distance in metres from your post code to your exchange.
- Please make a note of distance from the exchange (Blewbury).
- Next click on http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ and then click on the ‘start speed test’ bar underneath the two dials and wait whilst the speed test is performed. Once the speed test is completed make a note of the download and upload speeds.
Repeat the test and again make a note of the download and upload speeds and the time of the test. - Email the following information to a local co-ordinator for your village.
1. Your postcode
2. The distance from the exchange
3. The lower of the two download speed test results
4. The lower of the two upload speed test results
5. The date and time of the test
Email the results to Graham de Wilde (grahamdewilde@oakwoodmusic.co.uk) or Brian Rippon (brian@rippon.net).
