Two Temporary Traffic Orders could affect Upton residents during February 2013.
East Hendred, A417 Reading Road
Prohibition of Through Traffic and Waiting
Coming into force: 11 February 2013
This Order is being introduced because of carriageway resurfacing works in part of the A417 at East Hendred which is anticipated to take 5 days to complete.
The effect of the Order is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding or waiting, when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed, in that part of the A417 from its junction with Allin’s Lane to its junction with the A4185 Newbury Road.
Exemptions are included for police, fire and ambulance services and for the works and for vehicular access to adjacent premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. The alternative route is via A4130, B4017, Hanney Road, Steventon Road and A338, & vice versa.
The council has said:
Unfortunately, due to the narrowness of the road, it is not possible to safely complete the works without fully closing the road. However, to minimise disruption, we have instructed our contractors that the road will only close at 9.30am after the morning peak. To maintain cost efficiency and avoid prolonging any disruption, we have agreed that the contractors can work through till early evening i.e. the road will remain closed for the afternoon / evening peak, re-opening at 19.30. Therefore the hours of the road closure are to be between 09:30am to 19:30pm.
