If anyone finds a largish pair of binoculars (possibly lost off car roof on way up or down from the Alden Farm road), please could they contact Caroline on 01235 850601.
Thanks.

VILLAGE HALL DROP-IN
I think we’d all agree that the wait has been worth it. Our extended Village Hall looks superb – a very fitting venue for the Drop-in. A big thank-you to all those who worked so tirelessly on the project. So come along and join us for tea, coffee and biscuits. The next three sessions will be held on:
15 April – 29 April – 13 May
10.30 until 12.00 noon
Yvonne Collins 01235 850989
The Annual Parish Meeting will take place on the Monday 12th April at 8.00 in the Village Hall. Please come along any time after 7.30 and join us before the meeting for light refreshments and a pre-meeting chat.
As last year we want you to come along not to hear about the things that we have done but to give us your help and guidance on what you would like us to do over the next 12 months. Our plan for next year will be based on your requests.
All the usual reports will be available on the web in advance of the meeting. Copies of the reports will also be in the hall on the night or can be obtained in advance from Clare or myself.
On the evening, authors of the reports will be asked to give a very short summary and answer your questions and listen to your advice.
Please come along to give us your support and most important your thoughts and opinions.
On a damp and dismal morning it was great to see no less than 16 volunteers come along to give our parish its annual litter clean up on Saturday 20th. Over 95% of the litter was again collected from the main roads that pass through our parish with Chilton Road being particularly bad. It is a pleasure to drive those roads for a few days seeing them clean and tidy but it is unfortunate that we have so many motoring morons passing through our village who have no respect at all for our local environment and even by the time we went round to pick up the sacks on the following day there were a bottle and a beer can lying at the side of the road.
Our thanks to all the volunteers on the day and to Bob and Geoff who helped with collecting up the bags on the following day. Our thanks also to the District Council who supply all the equipment and a prompt and efficient collection and disposal service.

Council Vacancy
We are sorry to announce that Geoff Summers has resigned from the Parish Council. Geoff joined us a year ago and in that time has become a valued member of the council taking on the roles of UVHAT representative and Parish Transport representative as well as providing a wise head on all other matters.
We thank Geoff for his efforts on behalf of the parish and wish both Geoff and Celia good fortune in their new venture.
Geoff’s resignation does mean that we have a vacancy on the council that we would like to fill as quickly as possible by co-opting a new member. If you are interested in filling the vacancy, which will be until May 2011 when a new council will be elected, then please give me a call or contact the Parish Clerk, either of us will be pleased to give you more information on what is involved.

An Upton Calor Gas Syndicate run along similar lines to the Upton Oil Syndicate is now up and running and available to join for anyone in the village who currently uses Bulk Supply LPG and would like to be included. Current Calor Gas customers can benefit immediately. Users of other LPG for example Flo-Gas must be out of contract with their current supplier before they can join. The current bulk discount price negotiated is a subtstantial reduction on the normal zonal price and likely to save an average user about £200. If I have not contacted you directly already it is almost certainly because I was not aware you were a Calor Gas user – so do please get in touch with me if you are interested as soon as possible in order to enjoy the benefit. Please contact me preferably by email: lesley.thorpe.shaw@googlemail.com
Many thanks
Lesley
A few months ago I was approached by the charity RedR, asking if I would run the London Marathon to raise funds for them.
RedR is the leading training and recruitment charity working in international disaster relief. Their work saves and rebuilds the lives of people affected by disasters worldwide – the need for this has recently been so clearly demonstrated in Haiti and Chile.
Any support you can give to this great cause will be hugely appreciated. The easiest way to donate is through:

Some might say I am mad doing this and Lucy definitely agrees with you! Though I have pointed out to Lucy that as a mid life crisis go this is cheaper than a fast motorbike!
In anticipation, thank you for your support.
David
For those of you who may not know David, he lives in Netherbrook Church Street and is a member of the Parish Council. We wish him well in this adventure. MB
Details of the 2011 event can be found on the Uptonogood! web site.
The Upton Village Hall Amenity Trust (UVHAT) are organising a Mountain bike Event to raise money for the village hall. The event will be on Sunday 20th June and take the form of a 40 mile “figure of eight”, starting and finishing in Upton.
It is hoped that some 200+ riders will participate raising some considerable funds that will result in better facilities available to the village as a whole.
To help make the day a success, we are seeking volunteers to help in many different capacities. We need marshals on the route, parking assistants, caterers, “admin staff” and drivers of 4×4’s on the day.
If you think you would like to help in any way at all please contact Bob Lott on 851222 or email bob.lott@ciinformatics.co.uk.

A moving story of love and intolerance
The touring theatre has been coming to our village hall for many years. Audiences have enjoyed, and appreciated the level of expertise, colour and exuberance they have brought with them.
The cost to our venue is £314 and the only reason they have been able to sustain this price is because of the subsidy they have received. Unfortunately, a large percentage of that subsidy is to be withdrawn. Sadly, this may be their last tour.
