The Oxfordshire Touring Theatre Company presents:
by Brendan Murray. Tuesday 6th March, 7.30pm, Upton Village Hall.
The Village Hall Committee is considering serving teas in the hall at weekends during the summer – probably for 2 hours on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Just to say a huge thank you to everyone involved for making such a fabulous job of the stream area at the back of our house.
Help is needed to clear the stream in the village.
The stream that runs through the village is already flowing strongly coming down from Chilton and is likely to be flowing through the village before the end of the month.
Unfortunately there is a 30 metre section of the stream bed alongside Stream Road that is badly silted up and needs to be cleared urgently to prevent flooding of the road and the gardens on the east side of the road.
The stream head has moved forward over 100 metres overnight and is now only 300 metres from the A417 and could well be into the village during the next week. If you can help out please turn up in Stream Road at 9-30 this Saturday 13th January complete with spade. It is likely to take 8 of us about an hour.
Saturday November 11th marked the first step in the refurbishment of our recreation area.
Saturday 11th November turned out to be a sunny and windy morning, when we turned out to plant trees as the first step of the recreation redevelopment plan. After a lot of pre-planning the trees and bushes arrived promptly at nine o’clock and were unloaded.
Austin Maythem had spent a considerable time drawing up a planting plan for which many thanks, as we’re sure the operation wouldn’t have gone so smoothly had he not taken all that time in planning it. At about ten o’clock people started to turn up and we were very pleased to see quite a few young children coming to help as well. Huge thanks to Peter and Juliet Gardiner who helped pick out the trees and shrubs and for all their help on the day.
A selection of native trees and shrubs were planted in three drifts, which run parallel to Fieldside up the recreation ground. All the trees planted are English Native species consisting of Field Maple, Wild Cherry and Plum, Mountain Ash and Common Walnut for the trees, and in the shrub department – Dogwood, Hazel, Hawthorne, Spindle and Purging Blackthorn. We’ve hadsome substantial rainfall since they’ve been planted so they should be well watered in and we shall look forward to next spring and the growing season. Everything was planted by 12.30 and thanks to everyone who turned out and helped.
Last posting dates for Christmas 2006.
