Distraction Burglaries

February 22, 2007

There have been more distraction burglaries in the Thames Valley Police Area.

One incident reported today, Wednesday 21st February, occurred in Witney, at approx. 12:30hrs. The offenders stated they were from the water board to gain entry, showed no ID and stole cash. The offenders are described as two white males, aged in their 20’s, both had dark hair and were short in height, 5’4 to 5’5. They were wearing black coats and white shirts, one had jeans on and may have had an Irish accent.

Another incident was reported last week in Barley Close, Lewknor, Watlington, on Thursday 15th February, where the offenders asked to read the meter, again no ID cards were produced. The offenders were described as three white males, aged mid 20’s, one male was scruffy looking and was wearing blue jeans & a black T.Shirt. They were seen in a green vehicle, part registration number *V02 UM*

This same vehicle was reported acting suspiciously in Kingston Stert, Chinnor, near Thame on the same day.

These incidents may be linked and the offenders could be using different vehicles as well as different stories to try to trick people. It has been reported that they have also tried to trick people by saying they are from Neighbourhood Watch or the police, in order to gain entry.

If you have any information relating to this message or you seen any suspicious people or vehicles in the area, please contact the police on 08458 505 505 and quote URN 571 of 21/02/07 or 999 for an immediate response.
