Blewbury WI are Only Joking

One of the events during the Blewbury Festival is an exciting evening called "Only Joking, the Vicar of Dibley and other Comedy writing".  We are thrilled to have Paul Mayhew-Archer with us telling us all about his role as co-writer of numerous comedies including ‘The Vicar of Dibley’ and ‘Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps’.  The evening will be Wednesday 22nd June at 1930 in the Blewbury Village Hall.  Tickets cost £10 each and will include one (or two?) portions of dessert made by the Blewbury WI plus a glass of wine or soft drink.    This evening is open to everyone and last time we did it was a sell out!!
Tickets for the evening will be  on sale with the other Festival events from Blewbury Post Office only..  A great night out!
During June we are also having a Scrabble evening on 1st June and a walk on 7th June.   If you would like a lift or further information about the WI, please ring Judy on 850381.

All about Owls at Blewbury W.I.

WOMENS INSTITUTE

Blewbury WI next meets on Wednesday May 25th in the Vale Room of the Blewbury Village Hall.  The topic will be “Owls – History, conservation & rescue work”.  Fascinating creatures!   Of course you have all read that the Blewbury WI (which of course welcomes members from nearby villages) is much more than just that monthly meeting.  Coming up in the near future are a visit to the Royal Pavilion at Brighton, “Sugar and Spice”  – a flower-arranging demonstration, the ballet ‘Cinderella’ at the New Theatre, walks, Scrabble and much more.    If you need a lift or have any questions please call Judy on  850381.

Tickets for the event will be on sale with the other Festival events at the Festival Box office on Saturday 21st May in the Vale Room between 10 – 12noon.  After that, tickets will be available from Blewbury Post Office only.  A great night out!

Blewbury W.I. Who Comes to the Rescue?

The Blewbury Wi are pleased to have a talk by the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance at their next meeting on April 27th.  The TVCAA "patch" covers Berks, Oxon and Bucks.  Their aim is to get people to hospital within the ‘Golden Hour’ -  the vital period immediately after an accident or the onset of an acute illness.  Every single penny of their running costs comes from donations.  When might you need them?  We can be sure it’ll be an interesting talk.
The WI meets in the Vale Room of the Blewbury Village Hall at 7.30pm on the 4th Wednesday of the month.  Do come along you will be made very welcome as a visitor and can decide if the WI is for you. We do loads of things other than the monthly talks, – theatre visits, pub lunches, local walks, days out – all sorts!  If you need  a lift to the meeting or more details on the WI, please contact Judy on 850381.

W.I. Ladies to hear about Blenheim Ladies

The ladies of Blewbury WI meet again at 7.30pm on Wednesday 26th January in the Vale room of Blewbury Village Hall.  We will hear about "The Ladies of Blenheim" which should be very interesting.  Lots of other things to do, ladies! In the winter we meet for Mah Jong (an afternoon informal social gathering) and Scrabble plus a monthly walk.  Also we have started to meet the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the ‘Style Acre’ cafe at Savages for a coffee morning. 

Please do come along to any WI event – you will be made most welcome. Blewbury WI is over 50 strong now, with a wide variety of activities. Upton ladies, come on!! Contact Judy on 850381 if you would like further details or to organise a lift.

An Organ Grinder visits the W.I.

Blewbury WI next meet at 19.30 on Wednesday 24th November in the Vale room of the Blewbury Village Hall.  The topic will be "An Organ-Grinder Entertains", presume the monkey won’t be there!!!!  If you fancy an evening out please just come along and you’ll be made very welcome as a visitor, no pressure to join.  Blewbury WI has something for everyone – walks, theatre visits, pub lunches, Scrabble, Mah Jong and most of all good company!  Hope to see you there…….  If you need a lift or have any queries contact Judy on  850381.

News from Blewbury W.I.

Wednesday September 22nd finds the Blewbury WI hearing about "Weddings from around the world".  We meet at 1930 in the Vale Room of Blewbury Village Hall.
Up and coming events include a visit to Gaugin at the Tate, a talk at Benson on The Music of Elgar, Calender Girls in Oxford (watching not taking part!!) and a visit to the Grand Lodge of Free Masonry in London – that should be fascinating!   As always, we will be having our monthly scrabble evenings, our monthly local walks  and when the winter evenings draw in (already??) we’ll be having our weekly Mah-Jong afternoons – just to keep the old grey cells active.

Wednesday 28th July sees the Blewbury WI hearing about "Tales from the Arabian Nights" – sounds exotic!  We meet at 19.30 in the Vale Room of Blewbury Village Hall.

Up and coming events include a talk by Prof Richard Dawkins in Abingdon, Calendar Girls in Oxford (watching not taking part!!), a Celebrity evening with Ken Bruce, lunch at The George and Dragon in Upton and "Spend, spend, spend" at the Watermill Theatre in Newbury.  As always something to suit all tastes.

What’s on at the W.I.

June finds the Blewbury WI hearing about the "Diary of an acting look-alike" Should be fun!  We meet next at 7.30pm on Wednesday  June 23rd in the Vale Room of the Blewbury Village Hall.  Why not come along and give it a try?  As a visitor you will be made very welcome.  Coming up as part of our very varied programme: A visit to the Oxford Botanic Garden, Theatre at the Watermill, Calendar Girls in Oxford, a Croquet taster day, a day trip to the Chatham dockyard and much much more.    If you need a lift or more information, please contact Judy on 850381.

Learn about the Bees with Blewbury W.I.

We are all concerned about the plight of Bees.  Blewbury WI has a very topical meeting coming up in April – "The incredible world of the Honey Bee" with Steve Moll.   This will be at 1930 on Wednesday April 28 in the Vale Room of Blewbury Village Hall.  All are most welcome. If you are interested in the topic and would like to come as a "one off" then please do just come along and join us, we’d be delighted to see you.  If you need a lift please telephone Judy on 850381 and she will ‘fix it’.

Blewbury WI are a very convivial bunch, coming up are: a pub lunch in Appleford, the Theatre in Abingdon, a visit to the Botanic Garden in Oxford, a walk near Nettlebed and talks on a variety of topics including “An organ-grinder entertains” and “Diary of an acting look-alike”. Homeopathy at the W.I.

BLEWBURY W.I.

The next Blewbury WI meeting may provide an answer to all your aches and pains (OK maybe not ALL of them)!  Sue Huart is kindly giving us a talk about "Homeopathy" on Wednesday 24th February at 19.30 in The Vale room of Blewbury Village Hall.   You can come for a "taster" as a visitor, make new friends and have lots of things to while away these dreary winter months – Theatre visits, pub lunches, walks, etc.  If you need a lift please call Mrs Gettings on 851579.
